Birthday Safari

This birthday party was done back in 2009, for my son's 3rd birthday party. I thought it would be fun to have a "Safari" theme and take a trip to our local zoo. We served lunch and did cake and presents before we headed to the zoo, so those that couldn't go to the zoo didn't miss the celebration. It turned out great, except the zoo was so stinking humid! Here are some fun pictures from the party and the rest of the day.
For the invitations I found these cute little birthday adventure backpacks with birthday inserts. I took out the inserts and made cute little safari passports for all the kids. Inside the passports it had all the birthday info and zoo admission prices, along with some other really cute clipart. I have all the documents saved in a word file, just comment if you would like me to email them to you and you can make your own.

Since we were leaving after the lunch I didn't want to do too many decorations... but had to do some!

I hung jungle vines and leaves made out of brown and green butcher paper. I found some cute monkeys online and hung them from the vines. I also attached jungle animal print balloons to each post.

For my son's birthday I made a cupcake tower because it would be easier to serve. On the top was supposed to be a little safari cake with different animals poking out of a forest with a little safari boy on there. The cupcakes were just the different animal's heads poking out as well.

The breeze kept blowing out the candles, but we were able to sing "Happy Birthday" and get Mason to blow them out okay. It was so cute, Mason was so excited that he joined in the singing and sang Happy Birthday to himself.

The piniata was made out of brown paper sacks with a box of candy inside and was labeled "Expedition Supplies" Mason loved trying to hit it way up high, he thought that it was the funniest thing in the world. The kids got brown sacks to put their candy in with a label on it "Supply Rations".

The party favors were little safari hats and backpacks. Inside each backpack was a canteen, binoculars, a toy compass, animal sucker, candy bag from the piniata, and a paper with pictures of animals that they were to search for at the zoo.

All ready for the Zoo!

I thought this was a cute picture of Mason and his daddy heading into the zoo.

Mason was so excited to find the elephant on his list!

Kids excited to see the monkeys, you might not be able to see them too good in the bottom of the cage.

We had such a fun time, and a great birthday. Thanks everyone who came and made this such a fun and special birthday for him!

P.S. I have the Safari Search and Safari Passport invites saved, if you would like a editable copy, just leave a comment and I can email them to you.
