The Fab 50's

This party was also done back in 2009. That year my mom turned 5-0! I knew we had to have a celebration. I am not a huge fan of the "Over the Hill" theme, and this was my mom and I knew she was already not looking forward to being 50. So I thought that it would be fun to do a whole 50's theme since she was born in that time and she was turning 50.
For the invitations I got some old 45's from a used music store. Then I just printed new labels. One side had "The Fabulous Fifties" and the other side had all the party info.

I got pretty much all of the decorations online from Shindigz. We decorated to kind of look like a 50's Drive-In Diner with cars and carhop standees.

Oh we added tons balloons too!

We also had some 50's music playing in the background and some of the kids rocked along!

On the tables I put out varieties of candy that was popular in the 50's for everyone to try, along with a record and ice cream soda centerpiece. We also put baby picture of my mom inside the old fashion menu's that people signed and wrote birthday messages for her to keep later.

It was so fun to see people and little kids all dressed up in their poodle skirts, and Mason was such a little stud! And I wasn't going to miss the chance to get into the fun either!

My lil' stud muffin!

We served lunch at this party. I kinda wanted to stick with food at a carhop diner (but didn't want to do hamburgers and fries), so we did sandwiches, chips, and rootbeer floats.

I also made a cupcake tower for the dessert. There was a mini jukebox cake on top with a '50' and then cupcakes with little records on them. It turned out pretty cute I think.

For activities we played a fifties trivia game, had a hoola hoop contest, and a bubble gum blowing contest.

I had prize packages for the winners that included a variety of 50's themed items

I also had fuzzy dice to give the guests as favors that had a tag on it saying "Thanks for helping celebrate as Westy rocks into her 50's!" It was such a fun party theme and I can't wait to find another occasion to do it all again!!!

  1. Love your jukebox cake, we are using it for inspiration on our Valentine's box. I would love to feature your post on my blog barnnumber2.blogspot. com

  2. Would you ever offer the template to print out the personalized record labels?
